Recent malting closures have fallen harder in Scotland than
anywhere else in the UK in recent months. The market here is
increasingly for pot still barley and demand for brewing and
export has fallen markedly. Albeit the distilling sector is
in robust shape, the supply and demand dynamics need to come
more in line to return better values to growers.
The North of England is primarily brewer driven as regional
and national brewers predominate here.
Scotland - Troon, Optic, Oxbridge and limited outlets for Cocktail.
Niche markets available for Decanter and Maresi.
